How to Buy Starlink Stock in 2026
In 2019, the first Starlink satellite fleet was launched into orbit.
Today, Starlink's network is made up of over 10,000 satellites that deliver high-speed, broadband internet to more than 10 million people all over the world.
The company's financial results have been trending at a similarly impressive rate. Annual revenue hit $11.4 billion in 2025, up 53% from 2024's record revenue of $7.7 billion.
Starlink was founded in 2015 as a subsidiary of SpaceX. While Elon Musk once said he'd spin Starlink out of SpaceX and take it public once the business stabilized, that never happened.
Instead, Musk took SpaceX (SPCX) public on June 12, 2026, in the largest IPO ever.
Starlink will likely* remain a subsidiary of SpaceX for the foreseeable future, so the only way to invest in it is by buying SpaceX stock.
*Starlink contributed over 60% of SpaceX's 2025 revenue, so spinning it off would make SpaceX a much smaller — and much less valuable — company.
Keep reading to learn how.
Can you buy Starlink stock?
Starlink is a wholly-owned subsidary of SpaceX (SPCX), so its shares are not available to purchase separately.
The only way to invest in Starlink is by buying SpaceX stock.
How to invest in Starlink through SpaceX
Since SpaceX is a publicly traded company, anyone can invest in its stock through a regular brokerage account.
If you need a brokerage account, I recommend Public. See my best brokerages article for more information.
Here are the steps to buying SpaceX stock:

If the market is open and the price you set is equal to or higher than the current trading price, your order will get filled immediately.
Congratulations. You're now a part owner of SpaceX.
How much of SpaceX's business comes from Starlink?
In its S-1, SpaceX divided its business into three segments: Space, Connectivity, and AI.
| Space | Connectivity | AI | |
| Businesses | SpaceX | Starlink | xAI and X |
| Revenue (2025) | $4 billion | $11.4 billion | $3.2 billion |
| Operating income (2025) | -$657 million | $4.4 billion | -$6.35 billion |
Starlink was responsible for ~61% of SpaceX's $18.7 billion in combined revenue in 2025. It was also SpaceX's only profitable segment, bringing in $4.4 billion of operating income.
SpaceX reported similar numbers in Q1 2026:
| Space | Connectivity | AI | |
| Revenue (Q1 '26) | $619 million | $3.3 billion | $818 million |
| Operating income (Q1 '26) | -$662 million | $1.2 billion | -$2.5 billion |
As you can see, Starlink is the financial foundation of SpaceX, though it likely accounts for a relatively small portion of SpaceX's valuation.
How Starlink makes money
Starlink makes money by selling satellite internet subscriptions and related hardware to consumers and businesses.
Outside of normal residential and commercial plans, Starlink also offers dedicated plans for aviation, maritime use, recreational vehicles, and remote enterprise locations.
The business also generates revenue from government and defense contracts, including secure communications services provided through Starshield.
One of Starlink's largest future opportunities is direct-to-cell connectivity (Starlink Mobile). SpaceX is partnering with mobile carriers to connect ordinary smartphones directly to Starlink satellites, allowing users to access messaging, voice, and data services in areas without tower-based cellular coverage.
Should you buy SpaceX for Starlink exposure?
While you will gain exposure to Starlink by investing in SpaceX, it's not the most direct investment.
When investing in SpaceX, you're also investing in its launch operations, Starship, xAI, X, and future projects such as orbital data centers. And while Starlink is the cash cow of the business, it's the growth potential of these other segments that are primarily responsible for SpaceX's soaring valuation.
In its S-1 filing, SpaceX estimated it has a $28.5 trillion total addressable market (the maximum amount of revenue it could generate over time if it captured 100% of market demand) across all of its business lines. Of that $28.5 trillion, the Connectivity segment represents just $1.6 trillion, or roughly 5.5%.
That means Starlink's performance is likely to have less influence on SpaceX's stock price than many investors might expect. Even if Starlink continues to grow rapidly, the company's valuation will be much more dependent on whether its other businesses live up to their potential.
Buying SpaceX may still make sense if you're bullish on Musk's broader vision, but investors only interested in Starlink should understand that buying SpaceX stock means making a much larger bet on the rest of the company.
Other publicly traded satellite internet stocks
While Starlink is the world's first and largest satellite-based broadband provider, there are several other players in the space. Here are a few of the biggest ones:
- Amazon Leo: This Amazon (AMZN) project — formerly known as Project Kuiper — aims to compete directly with Starlink. It completed 11 missions and launched over 300 satellites in 2025, its first year of launch operations. The project was first announced in 2019 and plans to launch a total of 3,236 satellites.
- HughesNet: This satellite internet provider is owned by EchoStar (SATS). However, due to inferior technology, its subscriber base has shrunk 57% to 681,000 since Starlink began operations in December 2020.
- Telesat: Telesat (TSAT) provides satellite internet services to corporate, telecom, and government customers and generates around $278 million per year. It will also likely have a hard time competing with Starlink.
Beyond Starlink and Amazon Leo, OneWeb (a private company) is the only other real player in the LEO (low-earth orbit) satellite industry.
