The company operates through Tea, Rubber, and Other segments. It is involved in the cultivation of cinnamon, as well as sells rubber latex, and nursery and timber plants; and manufacture and sale of green tea.

In addition, it provides ceylon tea, such as black tea, green tea, and speciality tea; ceylon pepper; and cardamom, as well as engages in commercial forest plantations and hydro project.

The company was incorporated in 1992 and is headquartered in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Hapugastenne Plantations PLC is a subsidiary of Browns Power Holdings (Private) Limited.
